Marta Millar is a doctoral student in the history program at the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY). Her interests include the histories of modern Europe and Southern Africa, legacies of colonialism, mass violence, and public history and memory in these contexts. Her research explores postcolonial relations between Germany, South Africa, and Namibia, with a specific focus on the role of universities and museums in shaping public memory of the colonial past.
Personally and professionally, Marta is passionate about developing German-American relations and furthering international cooperation through education. Since 2018, she is the Program Director for the University of Freiburg’s North American Liaison Office, contributing to the university's internationalization by working to build a global network of alumni and promoting its research abroad. In this position, she has worked on various panels, conferences, and projects with representatives of the German government, the United Nations, DAAD, Fulbright, and other cultural and educational institutions. Marta is also a member of the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York Advisory Board and a member of the American Council on Germany. Marta is a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Baruch College, CUNY. She received her M.A. in History from the CUNY Graduate Center. She also earned a Master of International Affairs as well as a B.A. in History (honors), B.A. in International Politics, and B.A. in German from the Pennsylvania State University. |
